I was stood at the edge of a road, waiting with several people to cross, then I saw 3 guys running down the street. One slid over (it's been raining here recently), and got back up, and all 3 ran off. I assume they were just in a hurry, then I noticed one guy had a ton of stuff jammed into the front of his coat.

I then saw 3 or 4 people half-heartedly chasing after them. My personal favourite was the guy who literally was holding a chair over his head, shouting angry abuse. After crossing the road, I followed the people doing the chasing back to their store, and it was a phone shop, and I could hear the alarm going off, a few things on the floor, etc. Everyone seemed fine, though, just a little shaken up.

Kinda surprised they didn't chase the thieves further. They were running, but not THAT fast, and it's not like one didn't slip over. Guess they weren't paid enough to care. Maybe they'll get them with the CCTV footage.

What if they weren't armed, or only had sad little basic weapons, like butter knives?

I mean, if I worked at a store and someone was actually out the door with the stuff, even if they're unarmed I'm not gonna chase after them. I don't get paid enough to possibly get into a fist fight with them, one which could potentially result in injury to me.

Let the cops or possibly security guards deal with it.

If I saw them stealing I'd tell them not to do it and threaten to call the cops, but I'm not gonna actually go up and physically try to stop them. Not worth the risk (hell, on the off chance I come away unharmed and beat them in a fight, they'd probably try and sue for damages or something)
