It's been sitting dormant for a while because it needed some work to pass my state's annual safety inspection, and I didn't have the time or money until now. I was planning on making it a project car since it's no longer my daily. So this afternoon I put it up on the lift at work to evaluate what needed to be done, and I found this:



A big ol' hole in the front subframe. This was after I peeled off the thin veneer of paint and rust flakes that was masking it. I really don't feel like trying to grind all that out.

This is on top of needing new tie rods, new front ball joints, a new top, various interior work (the old top leaked like a sieve and ALL the carpet needs to be gutted), and god knows how many rusted bolts I'll encounter even trying to do all this.

I just don't have it in me, man

Sadness. I've always wanted a fun little Miata, they just didn't have enough engine for me. Instead, I bought a E36 325i >_>

But yeah once there is subframe damage, it's difficult to come back from. Could you maybe get another chassis?

I know what you mean. I'm having to rebuild the front end of my VW cause of rust.

Possibly, but if I'm gonna go that route, I'd be better off buying another Miata in better shape and using this one as a parts car. Problem is, I don't have a garage at home or much of a driveway/yard for vehicle storage, and I can't use my work's lot for something long term like that :/
