Then the military attacked, Sonic got locked inside an escape pod and sent down to the planet. He crashlanded and lost all his memories. The military forced Eggman's grandfather to recreate the ultimate lifeform as a weapon, and Shadow was born. But he implanted false memories and instructions to blow up the planet as revenge if he ever got activated, which is why Shadow got such memory problems. --- GameFAQs isn't going to be merged in with GameSpot or any other site. If we're going by the games then yes if I recall the military did initially want Dr. Gerald to make them a weapon that could harness the power of the emeralds but when they found out that Dr. Gerald was getting some outside help that's when they decided to attack realizing that the weapon would no longer be 100% under their control.
