I loved that game

The Leon route is a throwback to the original games, Chris route has the otp of chris x piers, and jake is an awesome character and sherry is a cutie

The ada route was ok too

Plus the gameplay is solid

So why the hate?

Basically Call of Duty with zombies
The story is a mess, they should have had you play through it linerally with all characters
Having to replay the same levels with different characters
Should have brought back older characters instead of having new ones
QTEs
Controls can be janky
The camera constantly getting hijacked
No alternate outfits for campaign
Having a partner breaks the tension
Shitty soundtrack

I could say literally every single thing you mentioned for Resident Evil 5, just saying.

I've played most of the series TC and it's very polarizing, but it's still a great game at the end of the day. The best controls in the series and loads of content, you'd be dumb to argue otherwise.

I honestly just didnt like how the guns feel in that game compared to re4 and re5. Well the story for resident evil has always been about bioterrorism to me. I still found it a fun game even tho re1, and re2 are my favorite.

I only played the demo but it definitely seemed way less polished than RE4 and 5...and it was getting too close to becoming an action game. It's not just about having enemies that are of the traditional horror mold, but also about feeling vulnerable. I should not be that mobile in a survival horror game. But it's not even that. It's mostly that it just felt cheap. If the game were good regardless of genre, I wouldn't complain that much just for veering from its genre. Because I like basically all genres, if it were a good game anyway, I would still really like it. But I don't like it cuz it's cheap af.

What? The controls were tight and non-tanky and carried over to the Revelations games.

The fact that Resident Evil 5 did virtually nothing to improve the control scheme and yet people still favor it over 6 tells me just where the hate is focused.

I played RE 5 with a friend and had a blast. We tried to play RE 6 but it wasn't fun. That's really all there is to it.

But I can't possibly see how anyone could think gameplay-wise it's worse than RE5 when even reviews at the time noticed how many improvements it made overall

I liked it better than RE5 or Revelations 2, but that's not saying much.

Chris's story was fun to blast through with my friend who only really plays action games. Didn't care about the lack of horror there.

Tried playing Leon's and Sherry's with my girlfriend, but she didn't get into the game and we never finished them. Leon's was probably the best, but iirc Sherry's had to many "run away" moments and way too much focus on the giant monsters.
