Nintendo was founded in 1889 to make a type of playing cards called Hanafuda or "flower cards".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanafuda

The cards are also known as Hwatu in Korea and Sakura in Hawaii. A number of games are played with Hanafuda cards, the most popular of which are Koi-Koi and Go-Stop.

I learned how to play Koi-Koi from Clubhouse Games for the Nintendo DS. I now have 4 decks of Hanafuda cards, including a rare special edition Mario set from Club Nintendo. But finding other people who know how to play has been difficult.

Well, Nintendo also used to run love hotels, so their past is definitely dirtier than most people realize.

I wanted to get the Hanafuda cards from Club Nintendo, but there were other things I wanted more so I never got around to it.
