This is so refreshing. I remember when Mario Party was annualized in the mid 2000s and most of them were at bare minimum good. I miss those days, since Mario Party was just this known quantity/comfort food game where you knew exactly what you were getting. And then they went and fucked it up for a full decade.

Like, it feels really fucking great to be playing a Mario Party game again and enjoying it.

I'm thinking about getting it. Is the Mariothon at least active online?

Cooking your meat is probably the best part of the game.

I handed the controller to my dad for 30 seconds and I was like, "here, you're holding the pan. Now cook your meat."

I think Mariothon only lets one of each character join so just don't pick Mario and you'll get faster matches, I think. My queues instapopped when I started playing as goomba.

They need to expand the minigames available in online though a bit.

The FFA ones are cool and all, but they need to add some of the other ones too even if they're less competitive.

That's just my experience. Never seen a duplicate in Mariothon and my matches weren't filling fast when I was day 1 marioing. But goomba = fast match.

I haven't played online randoms yet, just with online friends. But also, local co-op modes are great.

I really like the polish they gave the characters too. A lot of good facial expressions and animations. Very un-Nintendo-like.

Yo don'tchou say that about mah boys Boo and Daisy.

Also, it's really cool that it's got such a gigantic roster by Mario Party standards, but Monty Mole is seriously the most random fucking character to give a playable spot to lol.

It's fun, a lot better than the other recent entries, but still not quite as good as the older ones.

- The minigames are a bit too motion control-based
- Only 4 boards in the main game mode
- No Pro Controller support
- Stars only cost 10 coins. Combined with the 2nd and 3rd place minigame winners getting coins too, it really devalues coins. Stars should be at least 20 coins
- 20 turns is the maximum. Like wut? I've heard 30 turns is an unlockable but idk for sure yet. 50 turns were available in the originals
- No way to save and quit in the middle of a game as far as I know
- Severe lack of toggle-able game options in general, even compared to past entries
- Only 10 minigames playable online. Like, why...

I really hope this game gets the Mario Tennis Aces treatment and continues to get updates over the next few months or so to fix some of these problems. Because the potential is there. It's so close to being great, and most of these issues are easily fixable aside from the minigames being too motion control-y.

As long as they give this game some free updates at least once a month, it'll be fine.

If it stays exactly as is, it'll be kind of meh. But if it improves, it'll be a good game.

Right now it's like I said, the online minigames are fun, but they gotta flesh it out more. There's no reason not to have 2v2 minigames included at the very least. You telling me SMP is TOO COMPETITIVE to have 2v2 minigames online instead of FFA only minigames. C'mon man.

They act like I might have a molten breakdown if I get a bad teammate in the 'match the string' game in 2v2 or something online ranked mode.

I promise you I can handle binding my fate with someone else in a 2v2 minigame, Nintendo.

I know a lot of these are YMMV territory, but I personally didn't have much of an issue with the motion controls. I think in two full games, we only played like 3 motion control games tops, and even then they were actually pretty great as far as motion games go.
As far as the number of turns, I assume they took out 30 and 50 because they weren't very popular. A lot of people already complain about the games taking too long, so I can't blame them; a 10 turn game already takes like an hour to complete in this one lol. (Though I guess it doesn't make sense to leave the option out for the few people who do want it)

I definitely agree though, Stars costing 10 coins instead of 20 is insanity. Makes it way too easy for everyone to get them.
