I think actually tho, a mode where you can play an extremely bite sized Mario Party round online could be pretty cool. Otherwise I guess it really is a bit of a couch game. You need people reacting to shit.

This one time, every single fucking stars fell on this guy's favor at every turn that he got like 9 stars while none of the other of us got any. We were screaming every time something fucking improbable happened and he got a star or stole a star by sheer luck. By the end of it, all of us were literally dying of disbelief and laughter and decided to never play Mario Party again. That's the kind of shit you can't ever get online

I dunno, you can technically add every optional shit in the world to every game, but it doesn't always mean it's a fruitful idea. Playing stuff like a full game of Mario Party online is a novelty at best. Are you really gonna see people regularly playing a full board for more than a week? We already see online dying within few days release for a truckload of games that aren't known for its online. A development team might see it as simply not worth the implementation if the rest of the game sells itself

I'd say that would be a pretty big issue for Mario Party Online yeah. Most games are what 30 minutes?

They should probably still add it though. They do have an online service to sell.

on paper it's perfect. no physical repercussions for ruining someone's 1st place
in practice I'd imagine there'd be so many ragequits that it would defeat the purpose
then again 100% OJ is pretty successful which is about as close as you can get to a PC version of mario party but it also gives you incentives to stick around until results screen even if you're in dead last.

You people going on about ragequits seem to forget one vital thing

Not everyone is looking to play this game with randoms, ya know. Some of us wanna play with friends that don't exactly live across the street from us.

Yeah I think that's fair enough. Hell even making the board mode limited to your friends list would be an improvement.

Like I think part of the reason NES Online doesn't have matchmaking is because of the amount of games with single player and trying to share the controller with a random sounds like a recipe for disaster

Of course, it could probably be circumvented if it actually had voice chat, but we all know Nintendo's stance on that.

Regardless, if Nintendo can emphasize online gaming with friends there, why can't they do that here?

I wonder if they can use that tech to implement online for every local multi game.

But we know they won't because it's Nintendo.

Yeah, I'll never understand the idea of "That game is great played on the couch with friends, which means no one should have the option to play it online at all." Like yeah duh, basically every game is better enjoyed with friends in local multiplayer. Shouldn't mean that no one can enjoy it online if they want to try.

Like, why not just let the people who want to play party games like Mario Party and Kirby and stuff online actually do it, and all the lucky party people with nonstop friends like Nintendo commercials can still do that. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

mario party seems like the perfect game for online. a 10-15 turn game doesn't take long to do and i'm sure most people will be willing to spend the time on that. but yea quitters would be a big problem. but they could penalize people that quit. like have a completion rating. and you can set it to only join games with people that have a completion % the same as you. so if you're at 100% then you'll only be matched with people that'll finish the game or new players.

doesn't their online still force you to use your phone and crap? they need to just make it like normal.
