Played it for the first time a year or two ago and thought it was great

Really fun game! I started again immediately after the credits ended and went back to the beginning screen.

Not very RE to me, though. Not enough puzzles, too much ammo...you feel like you're Rambo and that sucks. The only way for it to be scary was playing it while holy shit levels of stoned.

RE4 is a flawed game.

Why everyone thinks it's so great is beyond me. The game is full of broken mechanics you can abuse to make it a walk in the park even in the hardest mode.

The enemies run towards you and stop right before reaching you and then they walk slowly giving you enough time to do anything....the A.I. is a joke. "Hey guys there's a ton Ganados coming after me. I'll just shoot one guy in the face and then do a devastating AoE roundhouse kick that will knock everyone away from me(while making me invulnerable). While they're taking their slow ass time to get back up I think I'll seal their fate with my knife"

Not being able to change your weapons in real time is also terrible even for its time several games allowed you to do this....go watch a YouTube of mercenary mode the ones with high scores and I guarantee you they pause more than 20 times.

The knife and pistol is already one of the most powerful weapons in the game. In fact you could clear most of the game with just these two weapons. And because you're not using your other weapons and ammo (because you're lol pwning with the knife) you can then sell your access ammo and other weapons and buy even stronger weapons to literally blow through the bosses.

Let's not forget that if they somehow manage to grab you, it's insanely easy to get out of it and even kill them by kicking their head to explosion, and if you ever think you can get close to me then say hello to my grenades or shotgun lol.

Don't get me wrong guys. I don't hate the game and I certainly enjoyed playing it. I just think it's highly overrated and doesn't deserve the praise you Internet nerds give it.

Still a lot nicer than dropping you on a street where there's zombies and fire and you haven't got the controls down yet.

Fantastic game. Kiddies like to hate on it because its the cool thing to do if youre an edgy hardcore RE fan but its easy to love REmake for what it does incredibly and its easy to love RE4 for what it does amazingly.

Lucky for the game, most everyone sees how great it is instead of exaggerating its minor flaws.

it was a solid game upon release(one of gamecubes infamous exclusive 5 or 7 games that ended up not staying exclusive).

It was graphically really great at the time and even now isn't half bad. it's water effects and fire effects hold up well. It also has great level design.One of the few games that does QTE well and has one of the best QTE boss fights.

Sure it becomes a cake walk at some point, like in New game + mode, but the first playthrough is not a cake walk.

It's a game that can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. You can go bare minimum or save up for infinite rocket launcher lol.

Yeah it's a top 10 game of all time. People who bitch about how different it is either weren't around then or have selective memory. After 2,3 and code Veronica people got tired of that stuff... especially code Veronica I got tired of playing half way through and didn't even beat it I got so bored.

I think Capcom needed 4 to be different and it paid off despite making the game less survival horror. The only part of 4 that felt like survival horror were when those regenerators showed up, the rest was action. Great game anyways, and besides re2 I have played through 4 more than a few times just to experience it again. Before remake2 comes out I think I'll do it again.

This is my favorite game in the series. It took the biggest leap from the original gameplay and it was great. They couldnt very well use tank controls in the new game and they didnt want to make it an FPS. ATB sequences were a horrible thing that I would instantly take a point off of the games score over, however.

My problem with RE5 was that it wasnt scary and the bosses were generic and boring. Omg, shoot the orange orb three times!! It was daytime thought the majority of the game, too.

my issue is the game peaks early and only gets worse with each subsequent area

when i think of my fondest memories of the game they're almost all in the village sections

It was certainly fantastic when it came out, solid gameplay and all. I regretted the lack of zombies in favour of shrimp-spaniards, and the almost complete lack of scary factor.
But then, Dead Space came out and blew it out of the water.

Overrated, ruined the franchise. We should've had REmake 2 instead then an end to the Umbrella story in that format. RE4 should've been a new IP.
