I know logically that it's massive and absolutely jam packed full of depth in a way that makes Skyrim look embarrassingly superficial, but when I'm running around something about the art style or the way they've laid out the environments makes you never feel like you're in a large place. You don't really see sweeping mountains or countrysides, it's always just the 100 metres or so in front of you.

I don't know if anyone else feels like that. It's an amazing game but somehow the way its presented feels like old school stage design rather than open world.

Part of that is just the nature of the area in the game: primarily swamp and forest.

Blood and Wine has some very pretty vistas of distant mountains and wide plains, and Skellige is no slouch either if the ocean view is to your liking.

Witcher 3 has the best open world ever imo. It feels like a real place, as opposed to a video game.

I loved the Witcher, but when it comes to exploration Skyrim has it beat. The locations you explore are more vast and intricate compared to the "?" locations on the map in Witcher 3.

the last third of the game is basically in Skyrim and there's way more to do and explore there. You're right, I wasn't too impressed at first. It consistently grows

I just got to Novigrad, I am prepared to cancel this topic. Holy shit this city. First time I've ever actually felt like I was in a city in a game and not just a map with lots of building shapes.
