They told me they don't care about my education degree or my experience cleaning classrooms. They need previous experience of sweeping for other companies.

They don't believe I can learn to clean after years of cleaning classrooms and will hire people that don't speak English ahead of college educated citizens.

I've cleaned classrooms for years and desire a job cleaning classrooms. Perhaps you should be in my classroom, as I have a degree in teaching reading comprehension.

Janitor is one position you need absolutely no previous work experience to be effective at.

Haha I know the type. I've always taken pride in keeping my classroom spotless. I've seen janitors give evil glares to teachers that don't.

That's strange, TC. I work in a school kitchen, and sometimes I sub after that and do the custodial work for the swing shift to make some extra cash. They would have given me a full time job so I could work both, but the school gets way too hot and I have horrible skin rash the badly flares up when I work too much, so I had to turn it down

Well, before I was a teacher, I was a construction worker that did many of those tasks. However, you're confused about the responsibilities of an elementary school Custodian I. My responsibilities would be general cleaning, classroom emergency assistance (a student pukes on the floor or a door gets locked, etc), and some heavy lifting with box/desk/table delivery to various parts of the school. I wouldn't even be tasked to any landscaping duties yet.

All I do is clean. They have other people that do the yard work outside and those other skills (electric work, roofing, ect)

No doubt, Boy Toy has had some super hero school janitors.

So you're in the cafeteria baking the food? I've heard anecdotes of that being an easier in on getting custodian positions. I've considered starting there as well and maybe getting some nutrition certs to move up. How do you like it?

Again, the head / on-duty janitor does more than that. He needs to be take care of all of those things when a professional contractor isn't available or too expensive to hire.

Well that's not the responsibility of any janitors in my county's public school system and certainly not the position I applied for. I admire the versatile talents of all the janitors in your school system.
