Tipping culture just gives a green light for employers to exploit their employees. "It's okay if I pay them $2 an hour, because tips!". I won't be supporting this practice.

I agree with the TC. It hurts the employees in the short term, but long term, it helps them. If they quit getting tips, then they'll quit and find another line of work which means employers will have to start paying them an hourly wage without relying on the crapshoot of whether or not and how much a customer tips.

Tipping is part of American culture whether you agree with it or not. People aren't dumb for being waiters and bartenders, you can make quite a bit of money in the right circumstances, far more than most of the people who insult those jobs and act like they're better than people who work them.

It's part of American culture. In America, we have the word "cheap" to describe the type of person that does things like not tipping. So no matter what your excuse is, if you never tip, you're cheap.

Because that's the custom in America. Unless you just don't mind being a cheap person, which it's pretty clear you don't. You don't seem to care about being a good person at all, so stiff away.

Sorry but you don't get to decide what's moral and what isn't. American culture has designated tipping as one of our customs and not tipping is considered to be cheap, greedy, immoral, and immature.

Back when tipping wasn't the custom, you'd have a point. But that's not how it is. To quote Marlo, "You want it one way, but it's the other way."
You just gotta learn to deal with that.

Or working at a high end restaurant that people like you can't afford to eat at, and then getting tips through good service and charisma. Lol we never threaten guests into tipping us, because thankfully most people arent like you and are actually decent people. Plus they're not broke boys so they don't have trouble leaving an extra 20%

And no, being a waiter or bartender doesn't make you dumb, you're allowed to complain about something even if you signed up for it. Most people complain about their jobs, don't be ridiculous. Plus like I said, most people are decent and tip, so we don't have to deal with people like you all that often.

Plenty of tip workers do want a set pay, idk why you'd assume they don't. There are some restaurants that do that and actually don't allow tips. Idk why you'd be ok with paying a set menu price but are not ok with tipping, even tho you'd end up paying the same amount anyways. Really for cheap people like you, you should be happy America has a tipping custom, it means you can be cheap and sace a few dollars every time you go out to eat.

knutjob posted...

I'm comparing tipping being illegal to slavery being legal, not tipping to slavery. So it actually does help my argument. What used to be the law doesn't have any bearing on what the law should be now.
