Board 8 > hows about valkyria chronicles

I played the first one and loved it. It was on track to be all time top 10 for me, but then I hit That One Level (with the megatank or whatever) and it just completely wrecked my motivation when I lost, to the point where I just kinda never had a desire to try again.

It occurs to me that there have been a few more since then though and maybe they won't do that? How do they compare, and how badly would I be wrecking the story to have skipped most of 1?
