General as in "good all round tips to enjoy and get the most out of the game". Some stuff I'm wondering:

- I assume not all the available quests are just readily available on the noticeboard. Should I be chatting to random civilians?
- How important is preparing for fights? When I fought the griffin and the noonwraith it said I should prepare oils and brew some potions, but I ended up beating them pretty easily (was the same level as the quest level too). I take it this gets more necessary later on?
- not entirely sure how the meditate to replenish potions dynamic works.
- How do I get over my hesitancy to just go with a dialogue option. I keep alt-tabbing out of the game to google all the outcomes and it's bothersome.
- Holy shit I've picked up a lot of shit. What's the best thing to do with excess junk and weapons? Seems expensive to convert them all into craftable materials. Should I just save them up and convert as necessary?

Excess junk and weapons you can usually just sell. As long as you pick up everything in containers that you legally can, you'll be fine for the most part. Unless you are playing on Death March difficulty, you don't necessarily have to oil up or potions all the time. As for dialogue options...the only advice I can give is that you just lose yourself to the storyline and go with what you personally want to do and look up the consequences later. A lot of the fun of Witcher 3 is doing that blind.

-Civilians that give out quests are marked on the minimap with a gold exclamation point, so you won't really miss em.
-Preparations aren't really necessary on lower difficulties and towards the end-game when all your gear is OP, but they WILL make life a lot easier for certain encounters. Some beasts will be really annoying if you don't use the corresponding oil or magic disabling bombs. You can just quen (shield) through everything in the game though even on death march, that sign is OP as hell.
-As far as replenishing potions/oils, they all refill to maximum when you meditate at the cost of one flask of alcohol (any type), so don't feel the need to save em up as they are easily re-obtained, no need to gather the crafting materials again.
-...no advice for this one. whatever floats your boat dude... rolling with how the game plays out seems more fun imo but if you'd rather know everything in advance then whatevs.
-just vendor everything until you find a blueprint you wanna make, then dismantle whatever has mats you need and buy the rest of the needed materials.

general tips:
-go for witcher school gear asap, they all look great, have excellent stats, and are upgradable.
-when you level up and acquire perks/skills, MAKE SURE YOU EQUIP THEM BY DRAGGING THEM TO THE TREE ON THE RIGHT. If you're still a low level you'll only have two or three slots unlocked, so you're better off putting multiple levels into perks you already have instead of wasting points on skills you can't even equip yet due to lack of slots. don't waste points on the "general" skill tree, they all seem really good early on but won't help you in the long term.
