what i hate about most of these outfits (and yes, "outfits" btw, not "fits"; same with that "cop" shit - sounds lame and stupid as fuck) is that a lot of them are completely devoid of personality and just scream "dressed by the internet"

you see a lot of these types around here in sf, but rarely do i ever think that they dress especially well or look cool or anything

.

another problem is the face-obscuring nonsense that's so popular with pics like this - it's like, we get it, you look like a dork and are hiding it, and are trying to compensate for it by dressing cooly

but the face is so integral - it brings together the entire attitude or vibe or whatever you're trying to give off

but if you look like a dork or a f***head or whatever, then it just ends up making everything look lame overall

and unfortunately, that's what a lot of people don't get - that clothes can only accent a coolness about yourself that you already have, i.e. something that's inherent to you

and it's usually something as simple as being decently good-looking, but not always (e.g. others are cool cause of how they conduct themselves, or cause of their attitudes or aura, and being decently good-looking does not automatically make you cool)

regardless, you can't merely gain coolness by wearing cool clothing

and the other thing is that you don't need cool, grossly overpriced clothing to look cool, either

.

sorry for the rant, wasn't necessarily directed at you

just jaded with fashion stuff and how a lot of these dudes think and operate

it creates a break

if i'm wearing low-top shoes, i always cuff my pants, or, if i'm wearing sweats, pull the ribbing up a bit

wearing pants that go all of the way down to your low-tops has always looked ugly, gross, and sloppy to me (with a few exceptions)

Which fking break? Are you serious?
You buy pants that fit. You know, ones that go just over the top of your shoe and don't drag along the ground.

Your ankles/socks being exposed looks like your parents can't afford to buy you new pants and you're wearing old ones that are too short.

Do you have your ankles exposed during the winter, too? That must be a nice feeling. But as long as you're trendy, it's fine.

1. a "break" as in a break between your pants and your shoes

2. are you blind?

those pants those dudes are wearing do fit

.

3. wha... ?

4. uh, it doesn't get that cold here in the winter, so yeah, i actually do

i even do it with my high-tops and boots sometimes

I should probably mention that there's clearly a stark difference between british city style and American. Like the pants break conversation. If you wore pants that had a visible break on them in London you'd actually look a little out of place. Most people you see have pretty high cuffs walking around town.

Which means socks(ankles if you're wearing short socks) are exposed and that looks ridiculous.

where do parents even come into this?

They don't come into this, it's just that whenever I see someone wearing trousers that are obviously short, it reminds me of unfortunate, poor kids that couldn't afford new pants every year and wore ones that were obviously too short.

uh, it doesn't get that cold here in the winter, so yeah, i actually do

If it's not cold, then wear shorts. I just unpacked my winter clothes the other day, too. Wore shorts yesterday.
If I need to wear trousers because of work, no chance I wear those ridiculous, short ones. Looks inappropriate.

and it's not cause it's "trendy" or whatever - i do it cause i like the look of it

i even do it with my high-tops and boots sometimes

And of course you're entitled to that, everyone has their own style of fashion.
It's just that your style coincides with every modern man that tries to look trendy.

and lastly, why does something as innocuous as this agitate you so badly, jesus

can't imagine a work environment so conservative that cropped pants/cuffed hems and exposed ankles/socks would be "inappropriate"

can't imagine the kind of environment in general that nurtures conservatism and close-mindedness to the point where people like you are produced, either, but here we are

And of course you're entitled to that, everyone has their own style of fashion.
It's just that your style coincides with every modern man that tries to look trendy.

not "every modern man" who "tries to look trendy" does what's in the op

and you know one thing about how i dress

now my entire "style" "coincides" with what "every modern man" does?

leaps in logic much?

Says the guy who posted a rant about men fashion in his first reply on this topic.

uh, difference is that i gave a reason (re-read the post)

yours just seems to be that you're really close-minded/conservative or a nerd or whatever from what i can tell (isn't getting abrasively stupidly opinionated about small things nerds' m.o. or something; and yes, this coming from the guy who's posted what he has)

Yes, I was talking about my opinions. But most people share that view.

can't imagine the kind of environment in general that nurtures conservatism and close-mindedness to the point where people like you are produced, either, but here we are

It's not conservative, it just so happens that most people share the same view on that style of trousers.
You damn trendy people manage to call everything that gets criticised conservative and close-minded.
Maybe it's just ridiculous.
If wearing short trousers is the most creative you can get, then maybe you lack imagination?

I'm done with arguing on this matter.

List of some things that look laughable to me. (I will make fun of my friends if they wear/do something like that.)

Short trousers.
Extremely tight trousers.
Wearing long socks with shorts or wearing ankle socks with trousers. Or wearing no socks at all. Or wearing socks and sandals.
Those hairstyles where people shave off sides of their head and leave some ridiculous combover at the top.
Men wearing t-shirts with deep cleavage, wth is that about?
People wearing watches on their right wrist. That's like common sense 101 because 99% of wrist watches are designed to be worn on the left wrist.

That's just the most common stuff.

I mean who are these most people

Having socks showing is a fairly ubiquitous style choice that goes back generations, even if it's not the particular style choice you would go for.

Should've said so in the first place. My mistake for not realizing it.

Short trousers->the one who's wearing them is too tall for them->being too tall for something is a good attempt to hide you're a manlet.

Your personal opinion is fine but you framed the whole thing like it was a fact that everyone who's not a douchebag agrees with, which was a bit silly. You also came out with a bunch of fashion "rules" which makes me think you're sticking to fairly conservative classic menswear, which is also fine but by no means the be-all-end-all of style.

Also I don't know about the tall person thing myself. I'm 6ft1, never felt the need to appear taller. I just do it because it meets a kind of aesthetic I sometimes want to go for.
