Cavill's lip ferret was the worst example (but was mostly a victim of time constraints) and Steppenwolf was a mess of a character choice as well as a PS3 era looking cutscene boss at best (he could have been written and looked so much cooler but that's the DCEU for you...MARTHAMARTHAMARTHA) but the rest was just too busy and ended up looking like a mess-a detailed, probably quite difficult to create but overcooked, mess. You could always tell when the effects were mostly practical because you actually enjoyed what was going on in that part.
There were just a lot of weird choices (eg. Flash's weird running/slowdown movements) that weren't doing them any favours. --- Mod me? You don't even know me! ... Copied to Clipboard!

Mostly because of overuse. The prequel trilogy perfectly demonstrated why it was a bad idea.
