Mum whose daughter was 'hung from tree' hit with restraining order

A Perth mother is preparing for a court fight after going public on a shock bullying case.

Belinda Yoon claims her daughter Amber, 10, was allegedly hung from a tree with a skipping rope, but now she's facing a restraining order taken out by the parents of the child accused of doing it.

"Apparently I've been driving past their house in an agitated state, for one I had no idea about their first names or even where they lived," a tearful Ms Yoon said.

Police investigated the incident, which occurred during lunchtime at Queen of Apostles Catholic School in Riverton, but no charges were laid.

The summons also points to Ms Yoon's earlier comments to 9NEWS about being unhappy with the outcome of the police investigation.

Ms Yoon said she's stunned by the restraining order and plans to fight it.

"I'd love to know how they could cause us even more heartache, when we have already hurt enough," she said.

Ms Yoon believes the latest development is an attempt to silence her.

"It feels like I'm almost getting bullied myself because they just want me to be silenced and I won't be," she said.

She says she'll fight against the restraining order on behalf of all victims of school bullying.

"They have shared their stories with me they have confided in me with the most heartbreaking stories and if I don't fight for them, I don't know how there will be any change," she said.

That's fucked up. I can understand if she threatened to do something violent to that jackass kid who tried to hang her daughter, but otherwise, it's bullshit and the other family needs to check their kid.

Reminds me of when my 10th grade government teacher told me that the parents of her son's bully gave her a restraining order. Seems like it's common for a bully's parents to do this.

How are bullies parent's even allowed to do that, well unless of course the victims actually try something.

I guess they just bullshit a story about being harassed by the victim's parents to the police.

Don't you need proof before a restraining order is allowed?

They don't typically hand these things out just because you ask for one, so I'd be curious to hear from either the other parents or the judge

Not all the time it's why sometimes a woman can just call the police on her boyfriend or husband even if he's just sitting on the couch burping the alphabet and they'll come and arrest him.

Which part do you think she's lying about? The attempted hanging of her daughter, which she reported to the police? Or the restraining order filed against her in court?

I assume, about that she didn't do anything to warrant the restraining order.

I googled it and it requires a judge and a hearing to get a restraining order, so it kinda does in America.

I think it'd be a more beneficial venue to go after the hanging incident rather than fighting the restraining order in court. Though child protection when it comes to other kids has always been a problem to handle.

recently a person I know beat a restraining order so it definitely has to have to met some sort of legal requirements. you can't just get out a restraining order on someone because you want to.

My ex once had me drive her to the magistrates office so she could get a restraining order against the father of her son. When asked for her reason, she answered that he had threatened her.

While he had actually threatened her, she had no proof whatsoever to present, yet was granted a restraining order within 30 minutes of our arrival there. He was served the restraining order that afternoon and arrested for violating it that night. Her lawyer used the incident against him when they went to court over custody.

---

When I was a teenager, a friend and I were attacked by his drunken uncle. My friend's mother (his uncle's sister) called the police and her brother fled the scene in his truck. The police arrived and took statements from us and made us see paramedics even though we were fine.

It was a few days after this that I learned of the restraining order against my friend's uncle, but it had also been issued with no proof beyond the word of two teenage boys and a mentally ill woman who happened to be telling the truth.

---

I can think of a few other weaker examples but these are hardly what I would call proof.
