Been getting more and more into the horror genre the past couple years and have watched a fair bit, but these are most of the big ones I've heard of that I'm still missing (and also have easy access to right now).

I might be able to watch more than one tonight depending on how I'm feeling, so I'll watch the most voted for one, and if I watch another I'll do the second highest.

If it helps, my favorite horror movies I've seen are The Witch and John Carpenter's The Thing.

Halloween, Carrie, The Fly, Let The Right One In, Nightmare On Elm Street are my favourites of that list.

Also if you've not seen it, watch Black Christmas (1974 version, not the shitty remake).

If you are talking about the original Halloween and not the Rob Zombie crapfest, I'd go with that. A close second would be the original Nightmare on Elm Street and not the reboot.

All really good.

Also I suggest watching "The Strangers" first not second.

Straw dogs (either is fine I found the remake to be pretty damn good TBH).

Scream 1&2 if you haven't seen them followed by 4 if you enjoyed them (skip 3 unless you really like the story).

The faculty if you like 90s/early 2000s horror.

And finally "you're next" for a nice spin on the genre.

Just finished Halloween.

I liked it, but honestly, I felt a little underwhelmed. It's still really well made, but it definitely shows its age. Lots of very blatant horror tropes, which admittedly felt more obvious just because I've seen so many horror films that were undoubtedly inspired by Halloween, but still, could be a little distracting.

Still a good movie though. I just think I've had it a bit over-hyped for me over the years. I much prefer The Thing as far as John Carpenter goes.

Debating if I'm gonna watch another movie or not tonight, we'll see.

Only one of those I've seen as Scream 1, but I probably need to give it another watch at some point since it purposefully relies on references and tropes of other horror movies.

Carrie and the Hills Have Eyes are the only weak titles on that list imo. The rest you could watch any one and should enjoy yourself.

Def go with Halloween since the new one is a direct sequel coming out.

Yeah it's much more of a loving parody that pays a lot of homage to the genre and set the stage for a lot of future horror. The faculty is a follow in the footsteps but for alien invasions, solid cast though and a fun romp (not scary anymore I'd imagine).

Straw dogs is a really good home invasion style movie and both are brutal. I recommend the original only if you're looking for the classic, the remake is more recent and holds up well.

The strangers is my personal favorite horror film in the last two decades. It's more subtle than what you'll usually find though.

And you're next is a weird one but really turns horror tropes upside down while still being a solid horror film.

If you like psychological horrors I'll suggest "Identity" as well since it's a Cool twist on ten little Indians. I'd suggest more classics but those are easy to find with simple searches.

Yeah, that's exactly why I would probably have not recommended it.

For it's time it was classic, but it's been stolen from so much that it loses its impact.

Ah yeah, Halloween was pretty much one of, if not the movie, that really pushed Slashers out there. It's really well done. And Michael Myers is a step above other Slashers. He's not sloppy like Jason, or as theatrical as Freddy. He's efficient, clean, and most important, Menacing. Dude is always just watching you. Always in the background keeping an eye on you and everyone you associate with. It's just scary man. Myers is the man.

And, come on, not fair to compare to The Thing. The Thing is like the Holy Grail of horror.

I honestly doubt my local theater would have gotten it, it's shit about getting actually cool/good movies. We get the big action blockbusters and that's about it 90% of the time, with a few exceptions.

Being a film buff in Alabama sucks tbh.

I'm probably gonna watch a second movie later today, as of now looks to be The Fly, but I'll leave it open.
