I used to think like a lot of you until a friend put it in to perspective one day. He said, "Imagine you have lost your wallet, now imagine that your wallet gets returned, NOW imagine that all the money you had in it is still in it when you get it back. Think about how happy you'd be if it was." It really changed my perspective on lost things and returning them as found, in my opinion. It was actually a little while later that I had lost my wallet with a few hundred dollars in it and it had been returned with all the money in it that really cemented that sentiment with me.

If my wallet gets stolen and returned with no money, I'd be mildly annoyed at best. I can't know the person returning it didn't find it empty.

I'd be happy that I didn't have to replace my I.D. and my Social Security Card.

And imagine how much happier you'd be if all of your money was there as well. That's the point I'm making. I've always turned in wallets, purses and the like when I find them because of ID's and cards in general, I used to take the money though. It's just when a buddy of mine put it into perspective like that it changed my outlook on the whole thing.

Just deposit $1000 a month for 10 months if you're paranoid. I've deposited $2000+ cash per month for a few months before. Never had an issue.

I have family that has spent hundreds or even 1k to 2k on stuff at best buy and they've never been flagged. Stores and police consider $2000 chump change and won't bother you. Now if you buy a new car with cash that's a red flag.

I heard they investigate cash purchases of 5k and up.

Seen worse tbh.

Guy found a winning lottery ticket for at least 6 figures(cant remember exact amount but enough to make the news) and returned it to the owner and got some wine, a fruit basket and $100-200 for the deed.

Obviously he couldnt use the ticket himself since it wasnt registered in his name but some peoples greed are so bad that it must have stung a little and caused a debate after it came on the news.

I see. So that must be the limit.
Our $2000 deposits and cash purchases have never been questioned.

Youve found $10,000 and are unable to immediately find the owner. Would you like $100 and a pat on the head instead, prole?
