$749 is firmly in the flagship phone segment. Most people in the market for a true flagship phone (Galaxy S+, Note, Pixel, etc) are less price sensitive. We're not talking about people who buy OnePlus or Huawei.

Where things become really stupid is just how shitty the XR's screen resolution is for a $750 phone. 1792828 is worse than most $200-or-less phones. The Galaxy S4 had a 1080p display in 2013.

It seems deliberately gimped for seemingly no reason other than to make the iPhone XS's price seem less crazy (or rather, worth the "upcharge").

It's like how fast food places deliberately make Medium drinks like 10 cents less than Large drinks, just to make the Large seem superficially like a better deal than it really is.

Once all your stuff is tied into apple, it's absurdly annoying to get back out, and they know that in 2 years everyone with the "budget" iphone will need a new one and start looking at the higher end models (assuming they even DO an XR past this year).

the truth is that most people in the US finance their phone through a carrier, and apple is playing around with this now.

the average consumer has absolutely no clue how much their phone costs, because it's just another line item on a phone bill that is already kind of confusing (what is a line access fee?).

so now apple will have phones at the 40/45 a month point and the 35/month point, which looks a lot better to someone who just views this as another item tacked onto their phone bill. at this point they're playing around with what you would consider premium/budget pricing. ultimately the goal is to get people to lease phones

Only good thing I'm seeing about the XR is the proposed battery life - for an iPhone, of course.

The new colors are nice and all, but we know the thing will be placed in a case 10 seconds after its fresh out of the box.
