The graphics were an issue but it crashed because it had no fucking characters. That dumbass community manager being like 'nah guys it doesn't matter that you can't play as Magneto, characters are just functions and we put him on someone else'

It was a horrifically gimped shill product for the MCU.

i mean it seemed like 90% of the complaints pre launch were about the graphics (which are inexcusably bad) but it seems like everyone who plays it thinks its a solid fighter.

i think if it looked good it wouldnt have lost all of that momentum leading up to release

Why were there no X-Menm

A game that was all about fan service that had no fan service, it was destined to fail.

Capcom should of just done this is they wanted to half ass it like they did, just tweak some umvc3 mechanics, add in 10 more characters on each side and wham, new game. Like, galactus was already in the game, add the god damn silver surfer in like it feels like it should of.

MvCI had a ton of issues from the onset:

-Short dev time made a lot suspicious out of the gate.
-Terrible advertising for characters and just kind of dumping trailers with a bunch of really obvious/bland picks with no individual focus to hype people up.
-Announcing DLC (Sigma) immediately after the game's announcement.
-Bad roster.
-Quickly finding itself as the butt of a joke due to the graphics (that Chun-Li pic was everywhere on FGC Twitter) + stuff like the "Functions" meme.

It was all very messy and I don't think there's any one factor that definitively ended it as much as a lot of really bad stuff that accumulated over time. By the time it launched, everyone but the shilliest of shills was pretty lukewarm on it at best.

I still grabbed it on launch in hopes that it would exceed expectations, since I loved MvC3. It was kind of fun to play, but I never got into it enough to take it seriously and somewhat regret gambling on it.
