Halo 5 had them and they were praised for "doing loot boxes right", so I'm not concerned.

I'm concerned about other things Infinite is doing, like pandering to nostalgic fans by inexplicably rolling back Chief's armor and turning the awesome Forerunner architecture into something ultra basic that doesn't even look like it. All things considered, it's like they've reached a point where they've given up on the series' progression and are no longer taking it seriously. They've given up on narrative and immersion and are going to make it a game that acknowledges its own existence.

The Forerunner stuff in 4-5 was incredible looking. Some of the best sci-fi art I've ever seen.

In Infinite, the concept art they've released shows Forerunner architecture that looks so plain that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a random forge object.

Halo 5s survival mode was a lot of fun. From what I experienced the loot boxes were alright.

Youd gain what were essentially tokens for a variety of weapons & vehicles. For example, you may get a token for a regular banshee or even a stronger version thats colored gold. In the match as you gain points youre then able to spend the token to spawn the vehicle. Rarer stronger cards needed more points however.

I dont know if they were usable in regular vs. modes however.

They were only in the mode that specifically used them.

Standard multiplayer had only cosmetics.
