Ornstein and Smough.

Don't get why people ever talk about any Seymour fight in FF10 as if they were particularly hard.

Later Seymours weren't hard they were incredibly cheesy.

Ugh, the first one gave me so much trouble on my first playthrough; although I have no difficulty with him anymore (even in NSGNSNCNO, he was one of the less troublesome bosses for me). Never had too much trouble with the latter. Evrae's another one that gave me heaps of trouble.

That aside, Adel and Ultimecia in FF8 Requiem mod. Holy shit.

My boss from 2008-2012.

An absolute bully, who hung out personally with one member of our group and pushed him ahead of more talented people, and gaslighted me at every opportunity of dissension to let me know I wasn't being part of the team, which led to a bad relationship and ultimately my being laid off in 2012 despite having a fast track to a different department.

I was diagnosed with early stages of anxiety following that job.

I found with FFX that once you know the attack schedule and the appropriate counters it's laughably easy to win most of the boss battles provided you're not super undelevelled. Like with Seymour once you discover how to reflect and use poison those battles basically win themselves.

That's kind of the double-edged sword of turn-based combat. Either they throw in more RNG in which case you feel like you were beaten in a cheap way, or they make it all very regimented in which case the learning curve is basically binary.

The one on the mountain will blow you up pretty hard if you approach it like any other fight in the game and not something that requires patience and responding to patterns.

Not necessarily. You could also make a more sophisticated AI, but the tradeoff is a risk that you'll likely gate the encounter somehow, such that it would be impossible to be underleveled etc, or you'd put more limits on the executable strategies.

Gattuso in Tales of Vesperia, I have a rule about playing every Tales game on the highest difficulty from the jump off (and never switching unless to a higher one) because it's usually the only way to ensure you dont steamroll the game. It was only a mistake once, but god damn I fucking hated Gattuso for a long time because of how out of nowhere it was (and I didnt know it was coming because I didn't play the demo either).

Anubis in Zone of the Enders 2. Specifically the fight in compressed space. I know the score, if you hit retry/continue it fucks you over even though it gives you full health. So I kept reloading the save after he'd kill me and I'd be at like 60% health everytime because I lazily fought the boss directly prior to this one. Add to that playing on a difficulty that ensures he did a fuckton of damage anytime he touched me and the recipe for salt and sadness was complete.

Manus in Dark Souls. Everyone else had trouble with O&S or Artorias, but for me it was fucking Manus. A boss everyone kept saying was cake that I nonstop failed on for some stupid reason.

I walked into the wrong entrance of my former company's building one time to try to get out of the rain quickly, and the boss pulled me aside and told me that if I did that again, it would be the last time I did it there.

Thank you for going along with the way I went with it. >.>

Sigma in Mega Man X.

Always ended up running out of time to game, or giving up, and then having to do all the Sigma stages again. Don't think I beat the game until I replayed it in high school. Didn't have too much trouble with him in X2, and X4-6 though.

Vampire duo in Illusion of Gaia. Eventually got through it with sheer luck I think.

Also had a lot of trouble with the Shakhan fight in Xenogears until I switched my party around.
