I can play them on my 3DS and I heard that the 3DS one wasn't that good itself.

I would honestly find a way to play Aria before Dawn. You should play Order of Ecclesia.

Yeah you should play the gba aria of sorrow before dawn of sorrow. Failing that, you could just skip to portrait of ruin. They're both okay. I like the handheld castlevania games

IMO Ecclesia is the strongest one, but it's a little different from the other two. And certainly more difficult.

Besides, they both lock you to the whip, which is a significant difference from the following games, since they actually offer a lot more variation in terms of attack moves etc. --- Everything has an end, except for the sausage. Dawn of Sorrow was okay, but not as good as the GBA ones. Same with Order of Ecclesia. Not sure if I even played Portrait of Ruin.
