Put my beater car on sale on gumtree for $500. 2001 VW Golf, 273,000kms. Listed out all the problems - leaking shocks, rust on the underbody, loose handbrake, radio not working, bonnet completely faded, if you lock it occasionally the alarm goes off by itself, tyres near the legal limit. Said "open to negotiation".
Guy calls up and after some half-hearted very British bargaining we ended up on $450. He's going to drive up from fucking Yorkshire to get it. That's a 7 hour round trip. Who the fuck travels 7 hours for a piece of shit car that they're happy to pay nearly the total listed price for? Nobody does that. How does a seller get scammed? Well this isn't so much a scam but the classic "Oh sorry, I only brought $250, is that alright?" trick.
