I'm firmly in the yes category but I've heard dissenting opinions. Even if we bar the slew of followers it changed the game in a lot of ways, IMO for the better.

Bonus question: did you like scream 4 for what it was?

Probably not but it made the slasher genre cool again. Kind of modernized it.

I don't remember Scream 4.

Absolutely. All the other longheld franchises had been struggling for quite a while. Scream turned the genre on its head.

I'd say so. By then the established franchises had already started going off the rails and then Scream came in and sort of restarted the genre for a modern audience.

Scream as in the first one? If so not really heck I had the whole thing figured out in the first few minutes.

I never saw scream 4.

Major major scream 1 spoilers do not read if you havent seen the movie again major spoilers you have been warned.
I mean the killer was taller than everyone else and only one character is that tall, then tall is chasing girl through the House only for other guy to just happen to pop up at her window to block her. This told me there were two killers working together.

No one said it was. Scream was a lot more than just a slasher film though.

No one said it was.

The topic title seems to imply it.

The slasher/masked killer genre had gotten extremely stale but that doesn't represent the horror genre as a whole.

Scream was a slasher/suspense film.

The only great genre is psychological horror.

Scream turned the genre as a whole on its head with the self-referential tone and meta style dialogue. It also was a pioneer in intentionally blending horror and comedy as opposed to what came before it.

The post-modernism horror genre is all but credited to Scream. Not just slashers we're performing poorly prior to its release, as admitted by the directors and actors themselves at the time. IMO horror fans owe a lot to scream for giving us some of the greatest westernized horror films.
