Just read an email I got from Nintendo, where, on the 18th, you will no-longer be able to unlink your Nintendo Switch user profile from your Nintendo Account.

On 9/18, your Nintendo Switch will be receiving a system update, version 6.0.0. Afterwards, it will no longer be possible to unlink your Nintendo Account from your Nintendo Switch user profile. Prior to this change, you should verify that your Nintendo Account or your childs Nintendo Account is linked to the correct user profile.

For example, please confirm that the parents or legal guardians Nintendo Switch user profile is linked to the parents or guardians Nintendo Account, and that the childs Nintendo Switch user profile is linked to his or her child account.

By ensuring that your Nintendo Account is linked to the correct user profile, you will be able to appropriately manage your save data, Nintendo Switch Online membership, and Nintendo eShop content.

Hopefully, they'll explain this more today during their Direct.

Is not being able to unlink it potentially a bad thing? I got this email too but I guess I don't understand the implications.

They should make their account shit less confusing though. I remember a while back linking my Switch account to my old Wii U/3DS account, so I thought it was all one account, but then recently I realized it's still two separate things. Can't they merge them somehow? But they don't seem to give a shit about fixing that. They didn't even bother to update the Wii U (and possibly 3DS?) menu to remove Miiverse

I'm guessing it's to have people buy the online family plan and not share the cheaper individual plan.

Dunno. Hopefully it doesnt mean not being able to dissociate your Switch from your account for the purposes of selling it in the future. Not saying I have current plans on selling it, but I hardly use it as of right now. Was only playing Octopath Traveler, but I got bored of it. No other exclusive games interesting to me at the moment for Switch. Having grown super bored of Breath of the Wild.

Factory settings should always be an option. Also, considering all the resale and buyer's remorse protections under the law, I doubt Nintendo could really use this to bypass that.
