There is a huge difference between letting players figure out puzzles/tricks and purposely doing things the opposite of how they normally are just to create fake difficulty. Like, sure, some areas in games are scenic and great to explore, but sometimes a level just has to exist to move the plot from A to B, and forcing players to spend inordinate amount of time in a workhorse area is just a buzzkill. However, quickly railroading a player through a beautiful and wide open space is equally bad. It's about balance, honestly. How'd you even get through school much less college if you can't handle difficulty? May be pong is more your speed, but that could be "too hard" because it could be too fast for you. You like simple right, you like everything in life handed to you on a silver platter. How about checkers, that's turn based and you can take your sweet time facing your opponent.
