So there was a recent story about a guy proposing to his girlfriend through a Spider-Man Easter egg that was a fail because she left him for his brother. Turns out that part of the story might be total hogwash. Didn't stop people from bombarding her social media before she could state her side of the story though.

The sucky thing is this sort of stuff happens constantly. There was a trending Twitter story of a woman who told the story of a guy and girl who had a fleeting romance on a plane and had sex in the bathroom. Turns out most of that story was bullshit too. Again the people involved got bombarded and the woman who wrote it wanted to be an author and used them for publicity.

You even have kids who have photos of them being bullied spread around on social media. That kid gets invited to movie premieres. Turns out his parents are full blown KKK members.

It happens everywhere. It happens on Twitter, Tumblr, here, Facebook etc. Sometimes it's sharing a dumb post about vaccines on Facebook and sometimes it's a victim getting harassed because of a narrative that has spiralled out of control.

It sucks because there's nothing that can be done about it. All it takes is a small minority to take things too far.

Even then we all have to share our opinion on a story. It's human nature and it's so easy to manipulate. Pretty much everyone falls for it at one point. We will make broad declarations of guilt or innocence despite not knowing anything about the people involved.

We live in a weird time.
