https://introvertspring.com/6-signs-youre-an-extroverted-introvert/

If youre an extroverted introvert like me, you know how confusing this is for people. Everyone expects an introvert to be shy and reclusive. And we can be, but extroverted introverts also like to get out there and mix n mingle. When were on, we are sociable, and friendly. When were off, we hurry home to recharge in solitude.

Even though we spend way more time introverting than following the crowd, people only see our outgoing side. They dont realize that our social batteries are drained very quickly.

This just sounds like they are an introvert with an outgoing personality. The whole premise about being an extrovert is that you recharge your batteries by being around others. If you still need to be alone to unwind and re-energize, then you are not an extrovert, not even an "extroverted introvert". You are still an introvert.

That just sounds like another way to not conform to any predetermined boundaries, or "I am special, I am neither one nor the other". To me, I hear it as someone saying "this is a very hot cold ice cream" or "that thing is blacked white".

Do you think an "extroverted introvert" is a thing?

It's more an issue, IMO, of how "introvert" is often used interchangeably with "antisocial" when that's not actually what they are.

I think the whole "energy" definition needs to be scrapped. Do extroverts somehow leech calories from people around him? It's ridiculous.

The whole point of the definition is described ones personality. People take this stupid energy thing too far, and ignore personality altogether.

Everyone gets drained interacting because it consumes physical energy. It's just for extroverts, they get more out of it so it's not as draining.

I'd say the real problem is the stigma that being an introvert makes you a creepy loner serial-killer-in-the-making, so most people avoid that label

That just sounds like sociable introvert.

Im literally the opposite, im a very shy extrovert. I get energy from being around people, but i also freeze up unless im super comfortable around them.

When I am alone I'm usually bored and lonely. But I can barely function around people, so im generally just depressed.

This.
I like being in my bubble of loneliness, but I also enjoy being around people. I'm not super outgoing though, more reserved, but I get told I talk too much by colleagues, so... *shrugs*

This honestly sounds like one of those special snowflake things, I agree, but this is very much real and very much me. People at work would never expect this unless I say no to going to a work party or something, they think I'm social and just the strangest person ever, but not the hermit I am when I'm able to avoid social places altogether. And, oh boy, when I have the choice of not going to a remotely social event or outside, I will always choose to stay home and away from people.

I agree. I feel like this applies to me as well.

In all honesty, I feel like that person's description actually applies to most people (i.e. can be social when needed but usually wants to be left alone). I can only think of a few exceptions from people that I know that ALWAYS want to be around people. People who are anti-social typically just choose to be it. It's not like they don't know how to be social.

This article just shows the complexity of humanity beyond simple labels of "introvert" and "extrovert". But to suggest that they created this third, new label just seems inaccurate to me.

Conversely people want the introvert label because it makes them deep and introspective. Extroverted introvert is like the perfect balance. Deep, but sociable. The best label.
