what are you brining?

salt is a bit weird, a cup of a finely ground table salt could be like 2x as much weight as cup of course kosher salt.

standard is 1 cup of table salt per gallon of water.

chicken the 1 cup per gallon is a good metric (or 1/4 cup of salt per quart of water). i don't brine chicken long, 30-60 minutes. You can easily over brine chicken.

also you might want to put sugar in your bine as well. its pretty common.
