PSA her coach literally admitted to coaching

https://nypost.com/2018/09/08/patrick-mouratoglou-i-was-coaching-serena-during-match/

So she said she's a mother and a woman who literally never cheats but less than 24 hours later the guy says they were cheating. And her defense is "everyone does it."

this story needs to die now

The term originates from the mistaken nomenclature of calling a spade a shovel and vice versa. They are two different tools with two different uses and construction. The original meaning has absolutely nothing to do with racism agains black people, or any people of any kind.

just because the coach said those were his intentions of his signals does not mean Serena was receiving them and or acting upon them.

The vast majority of people are siding against her.

She clearly thought she would scream sexism and racism and everybody would rush in to get her back.

like everybody is siding against her. I couldnt imagine being in such a humiliating situation.

because to her it's more than just a sport. you really think she's throwing a "tantrum" because she was losing? she has 21 finals wins. just a few weeks ago the french banned a piece of her clothing for being too revealing. it was for blood clots she experienced after pregnancy.

it's goes beyond the game.

she may have warranted those offenses, and yeah you can say "rules are rules".

but these rules are not consistently called across the genders of the sports. I've seen male tennis players curse refs out repeatedly without so much as a warning. She called him a "thief" and it cost her any sort of a chance of a comeback. In the US Open Finals. Really?

If you really think she's salty about losing I'd suggest you watch the aftermath. Any interaction with her opponent is genuine and Serena actually looks happy for her. Her issue is with the sport as a whole.

because she's a black woman it's, "overdramatic, raging, spoiled, entitled, poor sport". But when it's someone like McEnroe it's "passion for the game".

also here's the full quote since we're apparently gonna use the coach's words as an end-all for this topic

"I'm honest, I was coaching. I don't think she looked at me so that's why she didn't even think I was," he told ESPN."
http://www.sportingnews.com/ca/tennis/news/patrick-mouratoglou-serena-williams-coaching-us-open-final/uu0mars28xk61dkz9jkmnpk4p

It's not Serena's fault and she shouldn't have been punished for it.
And for those of you questioning this, why doesn't tennis force the coach to sit out of view of the player if it's so strictly against the rules.

Because it honestly is not. And it actually does happen all the time. And Tennis hardly enforces this rule. So to be called in a US Open Final is pretty ridiculous.

Most of the people arguing against Serena have probably never watched more than a handful of tennis games (both genders) in their lives.

It was amazing how fucking hysterical she became after the point penalties, like move on and focus on the match and get those points back.

I think the unpire was out of line for the game penalty though, given the high profile match.

i mean do i have to spell out every modern male player? bringing up mcenroe was more of a "look at how long this has been occurring" kind of thing.

but i guess expecting your average gfaqs poster to connect some dots is asking a little too much.

btw the head of the USTA agrees that female players are governed differently than male players

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/serena-williams-us-open-loss-usta-ceo-katrina-adams-men-women-held-to-different-standards/

and yes, she states that Serena could have handled it differently. That's universally agreed upon. But the issues are still present. And if this is what it takes for there to be some change, why the fuck not?

guessing cause the vocal minority keeps being let to speak for groups giving the groups bad names, though to mass ignore them would most likely be a good start
