Welp, two more weeks and it's time for school again.
Bit of a background. I started a CS degree in 2016, then kind of started slacking once classes became more demanding. Needless to say I never really learned any good study habits.

Could you guys please share with me something that has worked for you?

That depends on the type of learner you are. Are you more hands on, or more of a read the instructions type of person? Would you rather work with someone, or do it solo? Things like that. We would probably need to know to help... maybe...

I like to work on my own. When it's with others, I feel my social anxiety kick in and it cripples my ability to focus on the task. And hands on is how I learn best. My reading comprehension isn't that great most of the time.

honestly dude, you just have to do it. Review your notes. Solve practice problems.

Are you programming?

Not quite that far along. I've been learning powershell scripting and python 3 programming bit by bit on my own, but I haven't reach actual programming in school yet. I still need to do my English and Math prerequisites.

When I was in university, I'd go to the university library and find a quiet cubicle deep in the library. I found that once I was there, I'd pretty much be obligated to study.

The key is to leave your phone at home so that doesn't distract you, either.

Oh ok, gotcha. In my english classes, I never really "studied", I just made sure to do the assigned readings, and to start any papers early so that I would have enough time to edit them and make them perfect.

For math, there really wasn't a whole lot to memorize (at least compared to my major of biology), and time spent outside of class was just practice problems.

This is great advice. go to a place to limit distractions. Make sure to take small brain breaks, though. And review material shortly after you have learned it.

IMO it varies with every course, and it's important to be able to read what kind of course you're in early and prepare accordingly.

some courses, the lecture is pure garbage and you're better off teaching yourself the course content by buying the textbook and reading it from cover to cover. (math related classes are often like this.) especially important to notice this early so you can get a head start reading.

some courses, the lecture is literally all you need and all you have to do is go to class every day and listen.

some courses, the lecture is so-so, but the assignments will cover 95+% of the course content, so as long as you work through the assignments and do everything they ask of you, you'll understand everything.

some courses, everything is garbage and the prof is lazy, and as long as you write something on the exams, you'll pass.
