Text is a bit long, so you can read the story in this link:

https://kotaku.com/two-riot-employees-leave-under-complicated-circumstance-1828886072

The exact reasons are unclear, but given recent events, the reasons look obvious. What say you?

Good. It was a terrible idea to gate off all their career development panels in a state where that's literally illegal for paid conventions and then double down when called out.

Good, that was so dumb of them and it just turns people off from the message you're trying to convey.

If you don't want to lose your job, don't be a hostile prick to your customers.

What's up with game devs holding their playerbase in total contempt? If it weren't for those committed players, your game wouldn't be the success that it is.

They tried running a "literally only women may even attend" panel, not just a "women from our industry/ company" one?

Yikes.

...you had the chance to shut down the toxicity of your own player base but didnt.

This is exactly why get woke go broke is a rule of law. You think shutting down toxicity of the playerbase means the players are just going to shut up and keep giving you money? You may succeed in shutting down the toxicity of the player base but its only because the playerbase left.

Doesn't Riot develop League of Legends? Isn't LoL still the biggest MOBA game on the block?

That bro culture doesn't seen to be hurting business much.

You just need to remember that posting stuff on Twitter is the same as being fearless and brave so any type of virtue signalling is damn near heroic to a lot of these people.

They've been losing employees over it and have been hit with bad publicity so I don't know what else you're expecting. Most gamers do not give one shit about the working conditions of developers.

Even calling gamers 'manbabies' could be a consequence of it.

The latter. While the panel was a bad idea (It was actually all panels from opening until about 2PM, which included their only resume review, their only meet the QA staff, and their only course on production... so basically all the career development panels), Riot explicitly instructed ALL staff to not engage with the community over the controversy, and the two fired people explicitly went against company orders to start shit.

Businesses lose employees for a variety of reasons. They're still one of the most successful PC games around and, I assume, that comes with a profitable product. In the end, that's what matters.

Yeah, there is some bad publicity but most people, their fans especially, don't seem to care. Yeah, there were some articles from the usual outlets criticizing them for it, but so what? Those sites are typically mocked by gamers anyway, so I doubt the playerbase cares much about that publicity. Publicity that'll be mostly forgotten by the public within a year.

I'd wager you'd see a lot of gamers applauding Riot for firing the employees that were shitting on their audience.

Claiming that their toxic bro culture will adversely effect their product is on the same level of lunacy as claiming Nike will tank because of the Colin Kaepernick endorsement.

Nobody here is talking about it impacting sales. Success doesn't justify a shitty workplace

If good employees leave because it's a shitty place to work at that's a negative impact. That's all.

None of this stuff with Riot impacts gamers. If you don't care why even talk about it at all?

If Riot devs want to run their studio like a frat, that's their business. At the best case, it might be conducive to the success of their game and at the worst it doesn't seem to have had any meaningfully negative impact on the quality of their product.

The people that like that environment, or at least can tolerate it, will stay and maybe do well and the people who don't will leave. Beyond that, I think the most important thing is they put out a game that their playerbase enjoys and that they dont rip off their consumers.

You don't have to have a significant level of concern about something to make passing comments. I don't even play the game, so my level of "care" here is mild amusement that people who were very shitty to their primary audience got fired for being so shitty.
