Wasn't there a comic or something where Batman did kill the Joker, only to turn into the Joker himself afterwards?

An alternative universe Joker put a virus in his own heart, captured Batman, started to kill everybody in front of him just to make Batman kill him, and that virus started to rewrite Batmans DNA into creating a hybrid between Batman and the Joker.
And then that Batman killed everybody.

Wasn't that the (almost) story of the Arkham .....City..... game?

They use this as the plot in Arkham VR.

the real reason however is that Joker simply makes DC too much money to be killed off. He is one of the most iconic villains of all time so they're going to milk him as long as they can. I wouldn't be surprised if Joker eventually breaks the fourth wall and says "You won't kill me Bats, there's too much money involved!"
