Sometimes they are ruthless, sociopath opportunists who constantly abuse the staff and skirt legality like it's a barn dance.

Are you ever going to tell us what you do for a living? I'm pretty sure it's a software engineer (which wouldn't be surprising, for CE), but I'm just curious.

True that. Staying in the office till 7pm every night because you have the workload of two people, but at least there's beanbags!

I was fired from a place like this and the guy who fired me literally put his arm around my shoulder and called me buddy not 15 minutes before the dismissal meeting. Absolute psycho.

I actually walked out of a place like that. Pretty much exactly what you described. They had pool tables and bragged about their 'rockstar team' and 'great atmosphere', but would pay you minimum wage, as salary to avoid overtime, made everyone interns so they could fire them at will, made you stay an extra hour or two a day, refused to give breaks besides lunch (which I could never take anyway if I wanted to ever leave at night), and would just hire one person and expect them to make up for three employees.

I gave them my notice on a Friday night that I wouldn't be in Monday. It felt bad and I hate to burn a bridge, but those guys were all smiles when you walked in, but would give unclear instructions and then publicly verbally berate you if you did what they said but it turned out they didn't want that.
