I'm in the mood for two things in a game: exploration, and some kind of building or customization mechanic.

I think the obvious example would be Minecraft, but perhaps a bit more structured. I played a lot of Minecraft ages ago and don't reaaaaally feel like doing it again unless I rebuy it (since mine is the 360 version and super outdated) and start a new world.

Skyrim also came to mind, but the house mechanic wasn't that interesting, and I've beaten Skyrim 1.5 times and just don't feel like tackling it again. I have Oblivion and haven't played it in years, but I don't recall if it has any type of custom building mechanics or anything.

I also thought of Fable and its real estate system, but I didn't really enjoy Fable outside of that. It's not quite a building mechanic, but it had a similar feeling of progression and something along those lines sounds fun too.

I can't think of anything that I can get that really hits at what I'm in the mood for without revisiting something. Does anyone have any recommendations for something that fits that specific mood I'm in? It's a pretty specific mood, but something like that sounds super fun right now.

Not terribly interested/don't really think it's really what I'm looking for.

Does that have any type of customization or building or anything? Don't honestly know much about it.

What's it like? Never heard of it.

I'm a biiiit wary of NMS, but did the massive update actually improve it? If so, I'd be down to try it, but it got some horrible word of mouth on release that really turned me off of it.

Dragon Quest Builders
It might look a lot like MineCraft but it is SOOOO much better. Ever play Actraiser for SNES? Its like that. Or more Zelda-like if you can't make that comparison. There's a demo on the Switch, dunno if the PS4 has one.

That actually came to mind, but I wasn't sure if it was any good. That may be perfect then.

Sounds awesome from a quick glance at it, but sadly my laptop is pretty old and can't run much. Sorry about that, should have noted that I'm pretty much limited to PS4/Switch + older systems.

MINIMUM:
OS: Windows XP
Processor: Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384 MB of RAM
Storage: 500 MB available space

It's a pretty easy game to run, and if it doesn't run well you can just refund it through Steam

Fallout 4, for better or worse, has a decently big focus on settlement building. You can design buildings and the like.

Absolutely. The fanbase has basically done a complete 180. It added lots of stuff like dispatchable frigates, massive base options, better graphics, more to do, multiplayer, etc. It's very much what you described now. I'd recommend it.

I'll look into it then. My laptop is quite old, but it might be able to do that.

I thought of both of these but wasn't sure if they quite fit into what I was thinking. I'll definitely consider them.

Alright, cool, I'll consider that as well.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone. I feel like I have a solid list to consider now.

I haven't. I considered getting it for cheap on a PSN sale once, but wasn't sure about it and passed. May be worth considering then, especially if I see it on sale again.

Seems like DQB is getting a solid chunk of recommendations, so may go with that. What's City Skylines like? I don't believe I've heard of it.
