am i the only one who thinks kap's performance is a reason why teams don't want him. his barely-below 60% completion and barely-above 2:1 td:int ratios aren't exactly tantalizing. how much was he asking for?

He's right that a 3% drop is about $3.5B of equity value, but Nike stock is up 30% over the past 6 months.

That's the thing. He was trying to be the starter for teams when he seriously declined ever since he went vegan around 2013-2014. After he lost his arm strength, he was never really a QB1 caliber player. Teams were trying to get him to be their QB2, but he wanted to be the star and wanted more $$$.

It's honestly hard to feel bad for a guy who made millions of dollars, went to a Super Bowl and lost, and then focused more on social issues instead of trying to be a good QB. Guys like RG3 were good, got too cocky and started to suck, but now at least he's focused on making a career comeback and not whining about teams not wanting him. That's my biggest issue with Kap.

pretty informative vid, but i thought it cherrypicked a bit. it never told us about his sacks or his fumbles or fumbles lost, and that's something a stats nerd looks directly at immediately when assessing a mobile QB. he's not awful in these categories, really (think brady had more sacks in his first five than kap did, but kap lost more fumbles).

it also dressed up his 7-5* postseason td:int ratio really well. and never mentions his four fumbles.
(to his credit - and so i'm not cherrypicking, myself - he did have four rushing TDs in his playoff appearances.)

That's the thing. He was trying to be the starter for teams when he seriously declined ever since he went vegan around 2013-2014. After he lost his arm strength, he was never really a QB1 caliber player.

i mean, i think he could be a qb1. i don't think he's a championship-quality QB, though, and i think he was asking for that kind of money.

*edit: i had that backwards, that was bad. sorry. 7-5 for td:int postseason passing. a lot better than what was originally written.

LOL like who

(Using pro-football-reference)

Comparing his most recent season (2016) to the QBs last year, Colin has a better passer rating than:

Tyrod Taylor
Andy Dalton
Dak Prescott
Derek Carr
Blake Bortles
Carson Palmer
Jacoby Brissett
Jay Cutler
Cam Newton
Wacko Flacco
Eli Manning
Marcus Mariotta
Mitch Trubisky
Trevor Siemian
Brett Hundley
C.J. Beathard
Deshone Kizer

And that's just among QBs who played at least 7 games and all but Beathard started at least 7 games. He would have the third best interception rate among all eligible QBs.

I'm not even claiming that he's better than all of those QBs or that all of those teams should have taken him. Those are just all QBs that had the role of QB1 for half the season or more.

Why does it matter if he's a mobile QB or not though? He's performing better at being a passer than people who AREN'T mobile QBs as well. You're claiming he's cherrypicking (and no offense, but I in general trust Jon Bois a lot more than you), but you're saying "He's not a good QB because he had four fumbles", which seems like a weird thing to have as your sole determiner.

Why does it matter if he's a mobile QB or not though?

categorically they generally have a lot of sacks and more fumbles. ben roethlisberger, for all his size, used to be a pretty mobile guy. aaron rodgers is the same way.

what it betrays is the importance of still being a good passer.

but you're saying "He's not a good QB because he had four fumbles", which seems like a weird thing to have as your sole determiner.

no, i'm not. i brought up his td:int ratio and completion percentage.

I'm saying he still is a better passer than many starters.

His completion percentage still puts him above many starters last year and his td:int ratio in 2016 was 4, which is better than almost all starters last year.

Don't understand why they thought this was ever a good idea to use Kap, a guy who completely sucked during this last 2 years as a 49'er and had offers from the Ravens and Broncos and turned them down. I expect their shares to drop even further as the day goes on.

Yeah, I don't take any issue with the kneeling thing--he just sucks as a football player. Why have a guy who is known for sucking *and* roughly half the country hates (even if I think their hate is misguided) as your spokesperson? Like is it worth exciting half the buyer base to completely alienate the other? It just seems like a terrible business decision.

His completion percentage still puts him above many starters last year

misstep. last year was phenomenal for completion percentage.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2017/passing.htm

his career passing completion % is 59.8. which i'm going to be generous and give him for this. it still puts him at what would be 27th.

don't make stuff up my dude.

and his td:int ratio in 2016 was 4, which is better than almost all starters last year.

but we need to frame that. was he actually throwing touchdowns? he had a 4.8% td percentage, which would've placed him 13th that year. while it is absolutely true that he avoided turnovers through the air, he still had nine fumbles in limited playing time.

teams want aaron rodgers, not neil o'donnell.

i think 'scratching 10th' is a suitable place to put him. if we had to sub him in for brady, i wouldn't have been too upset. but if we were going to pay him the same way i would've thrown questions.

Kaep was a terrible qb. He had more sacks than yards in game. Majority actuslly all but 3of his touchdowns came when his team was down by 2 scores or more. All of his ints except 1 came when the niners were either winning or within 6 points...his numbers have the biggest drop from 1st half to 2nd half than any other QB in the league.

Oh and he cant read a defense for his life and the team won like 3 games with him starting

Nike's stock is falling in early trading on Tuesday following an announcement that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has a new deal with the athletic clothing and footwear maker.

Kaepernick's attorney, Mark Geragos, made the announcement on Twitter, calling the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback an "All American Icon."

An American Icon that does not stand for the American Anthem and does not vote in the American elections

I would argue that not standing for the anthen and not voting arguably make him even more American.

I mean fuck what's more American than not voting?
