Dragon Quest XI postgame battles are full of infuriating bullshit. For the second time in a row, I spent half an hour just trimming down a boss and right on his last legs, he does a move that stops all your guys from being able to do anything then kills you off while you can't do anything about it. >:(

What fight? Was it the third trial fight? that's the only one so far I can think of with a lot of locking down your characters

The boss in Phnom Nonh

They deal with music stuff mostly. Lots of summoning others, Hustle Dance to heal and pep everyone on their side, and lots of magic. Whenever I've gotten them near death, they force my team to dance and everyone is dead before I can do anything about it. Currently at L57, but haven't found locations to grind exp beyond the pep skill for metal slimes, and that is slow going.

must have taken me a billion turns and I barely won. was probably average level 60 or so

if you don't mind spoilers, id recommend going to nautica asap and doing the quest there because the queen gives you an item that will simply tell you about where you can find other quests to go finish up (ones that aren't listed as side quests). It's helpful so you can go do slightly easier stuff and gain some levels doing that stuff and come back to the stupid pain in the butt fight youre doing right now

Thanks for the tip, took that guy down easy as hell after my attempts on that other boss.

What's your opinion so far Delta? I am around 60 hours At the point in the story where I have to fight Dustan after "meeting" "Serenica" "again" and this is the best game I have ever played.

Also I finished the main quest at a far lower level than you, 49 hours and Levels 44-50, That fight wasn't even too hard.
The second quest has been amazing so far.

Slowly working on grind and minor stuff. L66 now, 82 hours. This stuff isn't so interesting when I don't have story to break it up much, so I'm not doing it daily at this point. But soon, I'll reach the point where I can crush the post game boss.

Holy shit this fight. Just ran into that wall last night. First round they dazzle Hero, second I exit the game.

I still can't beat the 4th trial fight in 50 turns or less. My record is 65 :x

I think I may have to grind for a while, boo

Or at least grind for materials for better gear

I am really underleveled, I noticed that the third trial dungeon has Vicious Metal King Slimes in it, but they seem to spawn very, very low. Also I had zero issues with the first two fights, I think I did the second in less than half of the turns.

Done some grinding with the tips in the Google Drive link sine I knew I'd be wanting max level for trophies later anyway. Hero is at L90, with the rest of my team between 86 and 92. Three more Metal fights could do the rest of the work, but it gets boring, even if it is less of a drag than the regular grind.

During that time, I've also done side quests, like rebuilding Cobblestone.

Everyone is L99, got the trophies for that. Now I have only 4 left. The platinum trophy, beating the post game story, the Wheel of Harma challenges and collecting all the appearance related equipment. I think I can actually do this. :D

Went into combat with all 8 in Pep status (I had loads of seeds anyway)

Round 1: Eight and Sylvando
Syvlando: Pink Pirouette every turn.
Eight: Unbridled Blade to the Shapeshifter every turn
Expected 4 turns here

Round 2: Rab and Jade
Pink Tornado on Jade, Rab starts with Infinity Wisdom to boost damage, then Kacrackle to kill enemies faster. Their post didn't mention Infinity Wisdom.
Expected 6 turns here, 10 total for me

Round 3: Hero and Erik
Blade of Ultimate Power and Divide / Cobra here the main enemy here, then Brightsplitter for the backup. They didn't get backup, I guess, they expected this one to be faster.
Expected - 6 to 8 turns, 18 total for me

Round 4: Veronica and Serena
Mighty Magic Burst Pep and end it instantly. Very fast ending.
Expected - 1 turn, 19 total for me.

Finished up with the Trials, got all 5 rewards.

Now the only things left are to defeat the big bad and some equipment. I'm thinking I'll do the equipment after the final boss fight.

Christ how did you get those levels? I am still around 50, doing sidequests. I cannot find any decent place to level and I feel like I've done most of the sidequests thus far (Going through whatever the Conch Shell tells me to do right now, although I found most of them without it).

This is a nice document with a bunch of useful tips. One of the items is related to grinding for exp, gold and seeds. I was able to get 5+ level ups per fight if it went well. Requires Pep Pips though.

Oh cool, looking at the post-game events and it looks like I'm missing:


Speak to the king, receive Golden Tiara on the way out.
The stalls with the competitive brothers will offer the Divine Bustier costume/armor. Minimum price will be 20,000
Talk to Noah in Cobblestone when events there are complete for Noah's Archive, shows remaining trreasure in area (chests. pots etc).
Golden Boy on the stage in the casino: Recipe: Dress to Impress
Sinderella and Whambelina standing/sitting in front of the casino stage: Stellar Starflower and Stellar Suit
Defeat the boss at the Strand (This was not at all obvious based on what was going on here)
Head to the end of the Other Side and defeat the boss <- this is where I was when I stopped playing recently
Defeat the boss at the southeast of the Snaerfelt
Go inside and receive Pirate King's Necklace
All of the Angri-La trials
Only 2/5 Trials done


Feel like this guide is missing a few things like the guy at the top of Cobblestone Tor unless that isn't post-game.

Looking at the XP Guide I'm like ehhhh, probably not worth it.

Kinda want to grind out 100+ medals for the Pep Pips. The Horse race is kinda fun but time consuming. I am a few short of Erdwin's Shield atm.

it's actually totally easy

defend in battle to get 4 dudes pepped up and out of party, use pep up with the hero so he gets pep, save game and set party and do exactly what it says. its waaaaaaaaaaaay faster than actually leveling when you're 70+ and you gain 6 levels in one fight with 10-20 minutes of prep work involved

Final trophy progress, all costumes for the Hero collected, 7 more characters to go. Using this list if anyone else needs one.

some of these bosses are a pain with their multiple moves that can just totally incapacitate your party for several turns. very much enjoying the game though
