I am very disturbed by CE's lack of interest in what looks like it'll be an amazing sequel, to an already amazing game. And ya'll call yourselfs a social board on a gaming website.

I hate to be that guy but I always preferred the 8 bit original to the remake

Playing it late night with that awesome soundtrack takes me back

I like how they're shamelessly using the "daughter of the original explorer" trope right after the thematically similar La Mulana 2 just did it too.

Spelunky really isn't a game you play for anything other than the gameplay, so I can't really say that bothers me.

I don't have a problem with the trope in general.

It's that the other well known, difficult, retro-inspired ruin exploration game just did it a few months ago. Seems sketchy is all.

Like, what else will they be "borrowing"?

"Sequel's character is the child of the first game's character" is hardly a rare trope in general, it's very, very possible (especially considering that Spelunky 2 was announced quite a while ago now, and was likely in the works for quite some time before that) that the two games came up with the idea to use it independently.

The only thing I've really taken away from your posts, is that La Mulana is a game I might want to take a look at.

That's a good take.

I like Spelunky btw, just pointing out something I couldn't help but notice, which is only concerning since (correct me if I'm wrong) Derek Yu hasn't made a game since the first Spelunky was remade in HD and has just been porting the bejeesus out of it.

I don't really follow developers much, more just series / games, so I'm not 100% sure; but I believe he hasn't released anything but has been working on another project as well. I also don't think Spelunky's been that widely ported? Last I checked, it was only on PS3, PS4, Vita, XB360 and PC? That's a pretty normal level of platform coverage for an indie game, really.

Ah, for some reason I thought it had mobile and Wii U/Switch versions too.

Just looked it up. There's also a version for Chrome OS, but no mobile or Switch.
