Even if it doesn't make any sense, their invisible enemies are hard at work creating a masquerade of dazzlingly disconnected conspiracies to justify their morally questionable views. They get to feel important because they feel like they are part of some sort of push against communism (in the Red Scare sense of the word) and they never have to be held accountable for any of their accusations, because everything some how links back to this nebulous cabal.
