The gameplay was always at best serviceable. The graphics were obsessed with that weird 90s colored glow lighting.

You're there to listen to Kain and Vorador spew over the top lines and solve a few puzzles. It will always deliver in that aspect.

Okay so I played about 15-20 minutes before I went to bed last night, my first impressions are they don't teach you a damn thing in the beginning but that's fine I have been looking through the instruction booklet, I was hoping the game would be a bit more fluid like alundra..... but the biggest problem is everything is too damn dark it all just Blends together, I don't know if it's my TV but it's hard to even tell where the doorways or switches are

Ah, nostalgia. The whole series is fantastic, with its tremendous story, twists and stellar voice acting.

The first game Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is still my favorite because of its more action rpg elements combined with symphony of the night/zelda style top-down dungeon gameplay. It's the best one. And dat voice acting good god.

Soul Reaver is also good but ugly as sin, due to the ruined world. But still doesn't stop it from being ugly especially on ps1. It's more straight up action adventure and zelda-ish but like 85% of the puzzles are block pushing based which is what drags this game down. Also that voice acting, my god it's amazing, and tony jay is in it too.

Soul Reaver 2 is the last good one worth playing. Beautiful, fun puzzles, and of course incredible voice acting. A little on the short side though.

No comment on Blood Omen 2 and Defiance.

I just don't understand how you're supposed to be able to tell what you are doing or where you're going in the first one, this is crazy

Soul Reaver is better if you can play it upscaled. Of course, that requires owning a PSX and a copy of the game (which I do), as well as a little computer knowhow.

I still fire up my PSX now and again to get that classic start up sound lol

Awesome game. The only annoying thing is the constant load times when you have to go to the inventory.

I bought it during the flash sale.

Controls are horrid, and the game is really easy and boring...

Didn't get the nostalgia feel I wanted.

With that era of games, I have learned to follow paths which tend to be slightly lighter in color

Isn't there a brightness setting? I always tend to play with high brightness settings on any game anyway, but that's just me. It's been a while since I played it but I remember making sure to listen to conversations to tell you where to go, like Nuprator's keep etc.

You should check out Blood Omnicide. It's not complete, but gives you an idea on what to expect. Graphical improvements are always welcome, and this is one to keep an eye on.

Legacy of Kain is still one I keep coming back to.

The first Blood Omen, oh my God, Kain just would not shut up. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the character and I love Simon Templeman, but it's almost like he was getting paid by the word.

Soul Reaver 1 was actually the first PS1 game I ever played. Michael Bell gave a fantastic performance, and I always love different takes on vampires and their abilities, but my best friend agreed with you; as he put it to me in an email, "Agony, thy name is block puzzle."

Yeah, the only good puzzles were actually the boss battles with the other vampires. That was the most memorable thing gameplay wise.

Also that's literally the best part of blood omen what are you even on about? I literally go to the menu and click on the items again and again just to hear Kain describe said items. Like the heart of darkness. Janus Audron. Squee that voice gives me goosebumps, I love listening to it. I don't understand not liking listening to it again and again. It's the best part.

Did anyone else decipher the runic message secret without FAQs? I remember getting stuck for a long time before I realized there was no K.

Getting all secrets without a guide is probably impossible. There are so many missables and one-shot paths.

I say all of the games, bar Blood Omen 2 and Nosgoth, are still worth playing.

The PS1 version of Blood Omen has terrible load times though.
