It may be the hardest thing for you (at that time) but try to take comfort in comforting their transitions from life to death. A lot of them are left looking around for their owners all scared and stuff. :(

I read a LPT on Reddit that said try to get someone that would make a house call so your pet's final moments aren't in some new, scary place.

House calls are a thing if you want to go the extra mile. Every vet is a little different for prices.

There are mobile vets but a lot of them do larger pets like farm stuff.

I have always hugged my pets and looked at them right in the eye every time I've had to put one down (well, that's only twice I've had to do it myself) and I found it actually helped me get through it. God I hate losing dogs, they're so great. A lot better than most of you fucking people.

Much as it hurts to see, it's still better than abandoning them. (That's how they'll see it at least.)

It's definitely an image that will never leave my mind. Kneeling there and trying to comfort my dog, watching him slowly lay down and...not get back up.

i couldn't stay with the cat, it was too much to handle dealing with the fact of her cancer and i knew that it was the right choice. removing the fluid would only buy weeks but her quality of life would suffer.

dog is still alive, she's just becoming slower but still the same personality dog that i have taken care of for the past 7 years.
would be happy if she manages to reach 10 years old or more i would be satisfied with the time on this earth for her.

I had someone come to my house to put my rottie down few years back. Absolutely worth the extra expense to make that a more comfortable experience for her.

I can't imagine not being there for it. It wasn't an enjoyable experience but there was something beautiful about it. I raised her from the time she was a pup, it was a gift to be able to say goodbye to her as she passed. Sure it's sad but it would be sad to just give them to a vet knowing you're never gonna see them again. At least being there gave me some closure.

I took mine to the vet but I was lone in the room with her and there was even a back door they let you exit through so you don't have to see anyone after its done. This sounds weird but they even made me a keychain out of her fur, she had the softest fur ever. I guess it just depends on the vet.

Anyway, I didn't when my beloved cat died, but I wonder if I could have. That's hard to think about.

Why? You only care about the lives of animals you can cuddle with? A pet is no more inherently valuable than any other animal. This topic is massively hypocritical as I expect most people here have no problem with factory farming.

Animals don't have the same rights as humans.

Edit: And I forgot to mention that just because people eat meat doesn't mean they support factory farming.

Some animals we breed and raise for comfort and companionship, some for food. They're valuable for different purposes.

When my last dog died, we spent three dies hoping she would get better, like idiots. On the third day, at the first hour, I took her to the ver after spending the whole night looking after her, trying to get her to drink a little bit of water, knowing too well she was in suffering and cursing myself for not taking her sooner. On the way there, her entire body and face contorted in the most agonizing way I have ever seen in my life. When we arrived at the vet, my father and I didn't have the strenght to watch her suffer anymore, and I bet she was just glad it was finaly over.

Who says a pet isn't more inherently valuable than any other animal? You don't get to decide what I value, and value is like beauty, its in the eye of the beholder. Value is not objective. So no, your post is wrong. And you literally say most people have no problem with factory farming? Wtf is wrong with you? Did you just say that so you could feel superior to a bunch of people? Cuz that's pathetic. That virtue signaling nonsense won't get you very far around here, you'll be called on it every time.

The other animals can go and develop human level sentience if they want to be viewed as equals.

Its not because its cut, its because I love it and value it so much more than those other animals. And yes, we dominate animals and use them as we see fit. Tell me... Do you squish ants? What about the millions of skin mites that you kill every time you take a shower? Why do you only care about some animals, but completely ignore the fact that you massacre animals every day? See both of us use, eat, love, and yes kill animals as we see fit. The difference is only one of us is a virtue signaling hypocrite. That'd be you if you couldn't figure it out.

Lol you probably think being vegan makes a difference too.

It's a natural phenomenon to care about beings that are closer to you than beings that aren't.

I don't donate to help the millions of people dying in squalor all over the world but I'd be heartbroken if my mom died. Yet my mom isn't inherently more valuable than those people.

It's like you think you're making some grand point but you're just failing psych 101.

Also after your pet is euthanized be careful not to hug it because after the blood stops circulating any fleas are going to start crawling out from the fur.

Those flea repellent liquid drops & collars we got were costly and apparently didnt work for s***.

I was petting my cat a final time when I noticed the fleas starting to crawl out, I shut the box right away and took him outside to get buried. Like f*** I just wanted a few more minutes.

try to take comfort in comforting their transitions from life to death

Last year I had to take my cat in to the vet for the last time. He was a few months shy of his 18th birthday.

I held him in my arms as the vet gave him the shot, and continued to hold & talk to him as he died.

He had been my best friend for sixteen years. It was the least I could do, though I admit it wasn't easy. Hell, the cat took it better than I did- he didn't make a single peep the whole time, and I was crying like a baby.
