Fuck them. They even said they want to kill cats they catch. Why can't people own a pet in their home? Indoor kitties doesn't hurt the environment

Eh, as long as they are not forcing people to get rid of their cats, it's not that bad. Still overly authoritative and sucks for generations of cat people, but won't really cry out as long as they're not rounding them up for mass euthanasia.

still bad. what if someone really loves cats and they are lonely and rely on cat companionship through their life? they always like to have a cat cause they live in an apartment and a dog is too hard maybe. so they get a kitty. and always get new ones as they live their life. but now suddenly they are told they will have to stop after this current one, and spend the rest of their life utterly alone. just cause of a stupid new law that is going to negatively effect their quality of life

like I said, why ban indoor cats? like, I could understand telling people to keep the cats inside. it sucks for the cats maybe. but that's one thing...but just saying no more cats in the country, period? that is messed up

This. And it's a fairly unpopular opinion in NZ.

The man who brought the idea into the media spotlight in recent years did so to bring attention to his newly-formed political party, which was soundly trounced in the last election. The leader, already known for being controversial and outspoken to the point of complete tactlessness, had to step down due to his opinions and personality being political poison.
