Unfortunately I cant escape my depression/anxiety through games like I used to. I get so irritable, agitated, impatient, bored quickly.

Couldnt even finish a second run through of Persona 5 because I got so agitated and impatient. I dont know why I was so immersed in it my first play through. I dont know how to explain it, but it felt like I was almost in mental pain. Not like a headache tho but its very uncomfortable.

Also most games these days I just dont finish. I wont finish what I start. I really dont feel well and my mental illness fucks up my enjoyment. Its getting worse and I feel hopeless.

I have this problem too on certain days, or more like, I get very unmotivated, and when I do try and do something it doesn't help in those cases.

Certain games almost never fail to absorb me no matter how I feel though. Like the Trails series.

I miss depression. Made me very artistic and in tune with myself. Now that I'm "normal/happy", I can't really connect to myself, emotionally, like I use to.

For over ten years. Pretty much since I got the Wii and started playing Worls of Warcraft. WoW was the only game i played for the most part until league of legends came out, and then i played that a lot too.

And then Skyrim.

And them Overwatch.

And now i pretty much dont play games.

just online games that require playing with random people. Everyone's either super shitty and I can't stand playing with them, or I'm not good enough and I can't stand disappointing them.

I stopped liking video games around the time I was diagnosed. Honestly I prefer it that way, plus going to the gym and studying are two of the very few things that make me happy now and theyre more beneficial than most hobbies people my age have at the very least.

I have an incredibly hard time playing an RPG if I am depressed, something like shin Megami tensei is fine though because then I feel like I can identify with the depressing setting lol

Doesn't really affect any other genre of game for me though

Anxiety is what makes horror games so great.

Good horror games like Silent Hill or Alien Isolation play with your anxiety like it was fiddle.

Definitely.

I have to beat the game on my own terms or else I didn't beat it. I've replayed Super Double Dragon, the subpar SNES sequel, for about six play-throughs this weekend because I didn't like the way that I beat the final boss. I've put at least seven or eight hours into it since last night and, at this moment, I'm pretty hot because the final fight still didn't go just the way I wanted it.

In the closing moments of the fight, the final boss twice blocked my typhoon kick and knocked me down with his aerial kick. I charged up after narrowly avoiding him and took him down with some heavy punches and kicks. Then he hit me with a spin kick which left me with virtually no health. My heart was racing by this point. I avoided him again, hit the typhoon kick on my third attempt, and then finished him off with some precision timed jump kicks.

It's as dramatic an ending as that fight could have -- save for possibly finishing him off with the typhoon kick -- and I'm still mad because it took three lives to get to that point and I felt like I should have beaten him in one. Even now, I'm having to fight the urge to pop the game in again, play through the same seven stages I've seen six times in the past two days, and fight that boss again in the hopes of getting it just right on the next play through.
