Current Events > Not sure my dad has much longer to live

So many things running through my head at the moment. My relationship with my dad hasn't been good for most of my life. My parents got divorced when I was maybe about 1, and his drug use and alcoholism promoted my mom to separate completely.

She worked at IBM and ended up taking me with her from Florida to Austin, TX. I'd go visit my dad every now and then as a kid, but I didn't understand why they were so angry towards each other all the time. I get it now that I'm an adult.

Not sure how to feel. Going through waves of sadness and normalcy when I think about this, but also immense hope for the future because of the progress in making in my own personal life with getting my weight under control.

So... Today is a weird day for me. Lots of good personally, but... My dad is doing pretty bad right now.

its always the worst when youre not sure how to feel. especially when youre life really doesnt have any perceivable change to them being gone.

but just think of the good times you had with them (if any). theres no need to dwell on things that cant be changed now. respect that the circumstances you had growing up helped you become who you are today.

I went to my mom's house for a few hours and talked to her a bunch. It dawned on me today that I never knew exactly how old my dad is.

He'll be 67 in October. I feel a lot better now that I've talked to my mom a bunch. I'm super close with her and pretty much owe her everything.
