When it comes to technology newer doesn't always mean better what with how technology has currently become. Should I go with an S8 or spring the extra dough for the S9?

My S8 hasn't been bad with updates.

My charging port is a bit loose/busted but that's my own fault since I dropped it a couple times. From what I've heard the S9 isn't that much of an improvement.

What is the price difference?

I mean I can afford both, but I usually buy the cheaper option when it comes to smartphones because I actually don't really do mobile technology. All those extra doodads they have, when all I care about is a phone with good speakers for when I'm browsing youtube, and good ergonomic feel in your hand for when you're both browsing the internet and watching videos on it.

Apps are helpful when the need arises but I usually just use google maps and the occasional app here and there for miscellaneous stuff.

I hope neither speaker is on the back of the phone because that was a terrible idea for the S5.

I wonder if I would like dual speakers... by the way have all these phones become edge-ified? Did Samsung stick with that design?

Why get a Galaxy? I think the Pixel 2 has dual front speakers and no edges.

Honestly? I don't know anything when it comes to smartphones besides the fact that I don't want an apple product. Otherwise it's anyone's guess what I'll like in a smartphone (some buttons would be nice, I really hate an all touchscreen phone)

I have an S8+ that pretty much looks and performs as new. That's essentially because I take care of my phones.

Between the S8 and S9, the question becomes value versus features. The S9 will have the updated internals, more future proofing, dual aperture cameras (dual lenses for S9+), and ever so slightly reduced bezels on the front. Hold an S8 and S9 in front of you though and they'll look like twins.

The value play for the S8 is that you get a former flagship with 95% of the features/look of the S9 for much cheaper. I'm currently getting monthly security updates, on Android Oreo, and am due to receive Pie whenever that's ready. I'm not complaining about software updates since my S8+ is fast and fluid - there's nothing to fix on that front.

As far as design, I like the infinity display with the edges because you get 84% screen-to-body ratio with no notch. Everyone is doing notches nowadays so seeing a recent Galaxy device looks refreshing to me. So, yes, while they are all screen phones with the FPS on the back, there is a virtual home button with navigation keys up front.

The S9+ has 6 gb ram apparently. If I get it that would mean my phone has more ram than my fricking computer, which I find kinda funny, funny enough to get the phone on that basis alone (gonna be honest price isn't a factor for me so much, especially since I'll probably never have the things I want out of a phone)
