Aerith* Aeris is a translation error that got fixed simce no matter how much people deny it.

I don't really know why the debate didn't just stop at "She's called Aerith everywhere else"

This isn't like Terra which was a name translation. All the dissidia games call her Terra, all the mobile gachas call her Terra, etc.

Aerith is only called Aeris in the original NA release of FF7 and no where else.

I'm not debating whether one or the other is correct. I was merely arguing about it being a translation error. The name Aerith is programmed into the game as a placeholder for her before she's been named but the default name when naming her is Aeris which again implies to me it was a choice by the particular translator working on FF7 to name her Aeris instead of Aerith.

There's a recently discovered skip in the game that allows you to get Aeris before you should do and skip the part where you're supposed to name her. When this happens her name is set as Aerith.

They still call her Tina in Japan

She's called Tina everywhere in Japan and Terra everywhere in English localizations because her name was actually translated. Aeris is just an error and they corrected it.
