I have to be in the right mood to listen to Sublime, except for Santeria, which I can listen to any time.

Also, trippy/weird music videos are great things to watch high.

I enjoyed them sober, probably because their music videos were so goofy.

Sublime is my favorite band. I never got it until I started smoking either though, but I just love how it's chill yet upbeat and catchy but can also be raw and aggressive as well. And there's not an iota of pretentiousness, nor does it ever feel contrived like future imitators. They're completely organic and while there's obvious influences and samplings of other artists, they created a sound that was completely their own.

DJs, Same in the end, Lincoln Highway Dub, 89 Vision, Greatest Hits, and STP are some of my favorites.

Oh and if you ever want to experience them live, Badfish is an excellent cover band.

Sublime sucks. Got the total "Nirvana Effect" going on. There are so many better pretenious white boy reggae-rock bands out there.

U wat

How many references does Bradley make towards shooting some girl's boyfriend or dad? In April 29, 1992 (of which, by the way, they got the fucking date wrong in the song and said "fuck it") he sings about killing cops and how he stole music equipment in said riots. Let's not forget "Date Rape" and these great little lines:

"The judge knew that he was full of shit and he gave him twenty five years
And now his eyes are filled with tears
One night in jail it was getting late
He was butt-raped by a large inmate, and he screamed
But the guards paid no attention to his cries"

And if you didn't already catch onto the fact that he looooves booze and weed (haha awesome unique traits), you got songs like 40oz To Freedom and Smoke 2 Joints. Nothing wrong with recreational drinking and smoking, but the dude acts like such a fucking high school student about it.

The band was drowning in it, man.

Love that band, I loved them long before I started smoking weed myself (for waaaay to long), I still love them after I quit smoking and listen to them probably once a week..
Actually it was that band and Uriah Heep that got me into playing instruments and singing..

Speed forward 20 years and I just had a soloconsert where I played Santeria on stage infront of over 90 people, and two of the girls in the crowd was visiting Norway and they were from California so that brought a smile on their faces...

To sum it up - I love Sublime because they got me to where I am today with my singing and made me become a local artist that cooperates with other people in the music business

I love sublime. I listen to at least one of their songs every day. I have seen them live (with Rome) about ten times and they always put on an amazing show. Seed is one of my favorite songs ever.

Probably the only band I know of where they sound better live and by live I mean recordings from actual concerts then their studio produced work.

I'm not quite sure how those lyrics would be considered pretentious.

^ To me, it seems like there's this common theme across a few songs about people getting served whatever form of punishment he considers to be justice, almost vigilante style. Like there's Santeria and Wrong Way which have lines about threatening to kill others for what he believes to be the right answer to a problem.

The whole thing is just so juvenile, IMO.

I don't think I've ever heard any songs by them except that "Lovin' is what I got" song, which I thought was just all right.

Sure, but I still don't think that falls under the definition of pretentious (although that other stuff you mentioned does).

Right on, man. Different strokes for different folks and that's okay lol Lyrically, the band isn't for me, musically, I really like their style, so I listen occasionally.

Yeah, I guess I'd say I like their musicality more than their lyrics.
