Hamas isn't defending itself. It's engaged in aggressive, offensive operations against Israel. You don't see the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank doing this. It's just Hamas. So it's not even all Palestinians. I don't know why you would defend Hamas.

Bill Maher has admitted to this, like he has talked about how he freaked out about Romney in 2012 and gave $1 million to Obama, but now he realizes that Romney really wasn't all that bad in the grand scheme of things. He even went so far as to say he'd give $1 million to Romney in a heartbeat if it meant Romney would take over Trump's presidency.

So what you're saying is that the republicans are running truly godawful candidates now just to make the merely bad ones seem more palatable

No, you made the part up about the Republicans doing it deliberately. What the Republican establishment wants is not at all what the base wants. The establishment didn't want Trump. They wanted a Jeb Bush or maybe a Scott Walker. Most of the Republican establishment hated that Trump was even in the primaries if you can remember that far back.
