And you can also argue that's the only reason many liberals like him. They sure didn't like him when Obama was president.

And for good reason. BOMB IRAN. Lying about how Iraq spread anthrax(fearmongering to support the war), and generally gaslighting Obama as an other/terrorist.

Obama's REAL response
John McCain and I were members of different generations, came from completely different backgrounds, and competed at the highest level of politics. But we shared, for all our differences, a fidelity to something higher the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed. We saw our political battles, even, as a privilege, something noble, an opportunity to serve as stewards of those high ideals at home, and to advance them around the world. We saw this country as a place where anything is possible and citizenship as our patriotic obligation to ensure it forever remains that way.

Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did. But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own. At Johns best, he showed us what that means. And for that, we are all in his debt. Michelle and I send our most heartfelt condolences to Cindy and their family."

Damn, that's a presidential response.

You mean that's better than "our hearts and prayers are with you!"?

I first started really following politics my senior year of high school, the Obama/McCain race. I saw that rally where he told the people who were asking questions about Obama being a terrorist that they were wrong, that he was a good family man, and I always respected him from that moment. It takes some balls to not even dance around the question, but to straight up tell a bigoted supporter that they are wrong, even when the crowd boos (which they did).

It's sad how much has changed since 10 years ago.

That's the thing though, when you see those videos of McCain's own crowd booing him for saying that Obama wasn't a muslim/terrorist, it shows you just how long the groundwork has been there for someone like Trump.

McCain: Obama directly responsible for Orlando shooting
https://apnews.com/58885b65cf714811964305b99ca78d93

WASHINGTON (AP) Republican Sen. John McCain said Thursday that President Barack Obama is directly responsible for the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, because of the rise of the Islamic State group on the presidents watch. But he later issued a statement saying that he misspoke.

I did not mean to imply that the president was personally responsible. I was referring to President Obamas national security decisions, not the president himself, McCain said in his statement, issued as his initial comments were drawing heated criticism from Democrats.

Why do you keep posting this? Are you using a topic about McCain's death to "own the libs" somehow?

He said Obama was a good decent man. Some time later, he said he holds Obama accountable for the rise of ISIS on his watch due to his foreign policy. These things are hardly related.

While I believe McCain deserves a lot of blame during that campaign what with how he changed many of his previous stances to side with the growing extremism of the Republicans at the time, it did seem like he still tried at times to be a moderate. Poorly of course. Much of the republican support base wanted him in office only so he would die and Palin would be president. Though looking back he would have survived that.

Nah, there were a lot of people that hoped he'd croak and Palin would get to take over.

I remember that being a point of discussion on the Democrats' side as well (obviously they didn't want him to die).

American politics has essentially been tribalism since the late 1700s.

the likelihood is he discussed the most likely outcome with his doctor and determined that the inevitable was coming, so he didn't want to be going to the doctor every day for the rest of his life. im sure he didn't think it would be this quick after making the decision...
